How to scientifically deal with high temperatures in animal husbandry

(I) Environmental cooling

1.Ventilation priority: Comprehensively overhaul fans, wet curtains, Ventilation Windows and other equipment to ensure normal operation. During the high temperature period (10:00-18:00), they should be fully turned on, and the longitudinal ventilation mode should be preferred.

2.Physical cooling: Different measures should be taken for different livestock species.

Pigs: When ventilation is insufficient, a timed spray system can be installed in the house (avoiding the feed trough), or the roof and walls can be sprayed to cool down (avoid continuous wetting of the pig body).

Poultry: Ensure that the wet curtain fan operates efficiently, paint the roof with white insulation paint or add an insulation layer, and sprinkle water on the walkway when necessary (avoiding the poultry body and bedding).

Dairy cows: Maximize ventilation in the cowshed, and install a "spray (spraying the cow's back) + large fan (drying)" system in the waiting hall and feeding channel to simulate cooling.

Beef cattle/sheep: Sunshade nets must be built in open/semi-open houses.

(II) Feeding management

1.Adjust feeding: Use the cool time in the morning and evening (such as before 6:00 in the morning and after 19:00 in the evening) to feed to increase feed intake.

2.Nutritional regulation: Add vitamin C, vitamin E, baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) or special electrolytes, anti-stress additives, etc. to feed or drinking water.

3.Reduce density: Rationally group livestock and poultry, appropriately reduce the stocking density, and increase heat dissipation space.

4.Key monitoring: Strengthen inspections of heat-sensitive groups such as late-pregnant and pregnant females, newly weaned young animals, high-yielding dairy cows, and breeding males, and give priority to ensuring that cooling measures are in place.

(III) Water and electricity safety

1.Power supply: inspect and repair standby generators in advance, prepare sufficient fuel, and strictly prevent power outages under high temperature and high load from causing equipment to stop.

2.Drinking water supply: ensure sufficient and cool drinking water around the clock to prevent water pipes from being exposed to the sun and heating up.

3.Line inspection: check old wires, distribution boxes, etc., and eliminate overload operation and fire hazards.
