The National Animal Husbandry Technology Extension Service participated in the FAO Global Conference on Sustainable Livestock Transformation and the Global Forum on Animal Feed and Feed Regulatory Age

From September 29 to October 3, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) hosted the Global Conference on Sustainable Livestock Transformation and the Global Forum on Animal Feed and Feed Regulatory Authorities in Rome, Italy. Mr. Yang Jinsong, Deputy Director of the National Animal Husbandry Service Station of China, was invited to lead a delegation to attend the events and deliver a keynote speech.

The Global Conference on Sustainable Livestock Transformation, themed "Driving Change, Promoting Innovation, Delivering Solutions," served as a platform for sharing innovative models across the global livestock sector through thematic sessions, case studies, and expert discussions. The event aimed to consolidate international expertise to address key challenges in industry transformation. Subsequently, the Global Forum on Animal Feed and Feed Regulatory Authorities brought together representatives from various countries to focus on feed safety governance, sustainable development, and regulatory framework enhancement. Through specialized presentations and interactive dialogues, participants contributed insights toward advancing the sustainable transformation of the global feed industry.

At the conference, Deputy Director Yang Jinsong presented China’s innovative approaches in promoting livestock technology dissemination. By establishing a five-tier collaborative linkage mechanism within the national livestock technology extension system, China has effectively bridged the gap between scientific research and industrial application, fostering a deeply integrated model of industry-university-research collaboration. This approach has yielded notable achievements in areas such as the breeding and promotion of high-quality livestock breeds, the implementation of integrated crop-livestock systems, and the resource recovery and utilization of manure and wastewater.

China's experience in leveraging technological extension to advance green transformation in animal husbandry aligns closely with the conference’s core objective of "taking action and promoting innovative solutions." These practices have drawn significant attention from international stakeholders and received full recognition from the FAO, which commended them as an "exemplary model for advancing sustainable and innovative transformation in animal husbandry." The experience offers valuable insights and a replicable framework for other countries pursuing sustainable development in the livestock sector.

The conference underscored how best practices can enable the livestock industry to achieve improved production, enhanced nutrition, environmental sustainability, and better livelihoods. Building on the outcomes of this event, the FAO will promote a series of actionable commitments to continuously support the sustainable development of the global livestock sector.
